A. Network news
1) "Food Coop Launches in Tottenham" (an article in the Haringey Independent - 21st July 2008) SH makes the local news... An article in the Haringey Independent - 21st July 2008 talks about the Food group / Back2Earth Community Kitchen & Food Co-op & Sustainable Food Event held at Broadwater Farm Community Centre on Saturday 21st July.Contact tottenhamfoodcoop@yahoo.co.uk to get involved.
"Sustainable Haringey, a coalition of community groups, is planning to set up a co-op that will buy and sell fresh food products, grown in the area, at fair prices...The co-op will also sell fresh produce ordered from organic suppliers such as Spitalfields market, as well as allotments, back gardens and community gardens around the area. And, not only will the products be easy on the pockets, but also kind on the environment, said Sustainable Haringey member Anne Gray."
2) E-bulletin writer required from October:
Sophie Ball, who is currently preparing these e-bulletins, can only do so until the end of September. We shall need somebody to take this job over from October. It's a great way of finding out a great deal about all sorts of things that are going on at both national and local levels and takes about 2-3 hrs/week. Please get in touch with us at info@sustainableharingey.org.uk if you are interested, even if you would only like to try a 3-month stint at it as Sophie did.

C. Events Further Afield
1) Camp for Climate Action, Kingsnorth, Kent
Many of us from Haringey participated in this event near the Kingsnorth Power Station, attended by 1500-2000 people. It was an incredible week of dicussions, collective sustainable living, fun for all ages, protests and direct action against government plans to expand coal-fired energy production in the light of their disastrous contribution to greenhouse gases and climate change. For more info see http://www.climatecamp.org.uk
2) Climate Change for Trade Unionists
The PCS Union (see www.pcs.org.uk/green) is hosting two courses on climate change, created specially for trade unionists by the Climate Outreach and Information Network (COIN), working with Ruskin College. COIN is the leader in the field of communicating climate change and Ruskin College is recognised nationally for its track record of education for trade unionists over many years.
