H2O Walk for Water, Walk for Life

Filed under: London Wide  Community Action & Campaigns

‘H2O Walk for Water, Walk for Life’ is a unique ‘open-platform’ fundraising idea to support African water projects.

Did you know that currently in the world — and mainly in developing areas like Africa — an estimated 1.1 billion people don’t have access to safe drinking water while 2.6 billion lack basic sanitation? Our idea is simple:  complete a sponsored walk from some place beginning with ‘H’ to somewhere beginning with ‘O’ (hence, H-to-O); then donate the money to any charity sponsoring clean water projects in Africa. Participants get to pick their own route — Holborn to Oxford Circus, Hampstead to Oval, the Hampton Arms to the Old Vic, etc. The walks don’t have to be long and can even be part of a daily commute – how about Home to Office? And because the project’s non-partisan, participants also choose which charity they give to.

We have ambitious plans to make the walk even bigger than the London Marathon and hope to get 1 million Londoners participating within the next few years. We are encouraging participation throughout the year, but as a community we are focusing on the week of March 22nd (World Water Day) this year.
