National Demonstration against Agrofuels

Filed under: Local Event  Green Space & Conservation

Deforestation is responsible for as much as 20% of global emissions, much of which is caused by clearance for cash crops that can be used for energy – ‘Agrofuels’ like palm oil. Unbelievably the government is actually encouraging the use of palm oil and other Agrofuels by subsidizing their use as fuel for power stations. They are classifying them as ‘renewable’ so that subsidies supposed to be part of the solution to climate change are actually making it much worse. Stop subsidising Agrofuels and deforestation!

The demonstration will be held at the site of the proposed new palm-oil burning, agrofuel power station at Portland in Dorset.

Transport will be organised from London and possibly other places. If you are interested in joining the coach from London (to Portland for the day) please contact stopagrofuels@campaigncc.org .
