London 21 Launches Climate Change Report

Local Councils in London are not doing enough to tackle Climate Change.
This is the key conclusion of our new Report.
The Report is based on a survey of the Councils done in 2007. It shows that a few Councils are working well on this issue, but most are not. Only 6 (out of 33) have a clear Action Plan with targets for change.
Chris Church, Chair of London 21 and lead author of the Report said: “There is a real need for our local Councils to do better work on this issue. We’d like to see them all make a New Year’s Resolution to work harder this year to help tackle Climate Change. So far, on average, we can only give them 4 out of 10."
There are some Councils that are doing good work and showing what is possible. But, for every good one, there are three where a lot more needs to be done this year — and even the best can build on what they’ve done so far. Local Councils have a key role to play in making it easier for everyone to live low-carbon lives. They should be taking a lead and not lagging behind.”
