What's Near Me?

Black and Minority Ethnic Initiatives for Green and Healthy London Neighbourhoods

Filed under: Community Action & Campaigns

London 21 has begun an exciting 3-year programme to engage London's 2 million BME population into the sustainability and environmental issues of London.

The 3-year programme involves a number of features to increase BME participation in local community based environmental initiatives across London.

Following its launch in March 2005, London 21's BME community action programme reached an important landmark with its first London-wide event. On 10th June 2005, the London Multi-cultural Environmental Fair brought together community groups, activists, environmentalists and public sector decision-makers.

The Fair aimed to focus public, voluntary and community sector minds on how to engage London's 2 million multi-ethnic population into the city's mounting environmental-sustainability challenges. It also aimed to encourage positive action on BME inclusion and participation in London's environmental programes & initiatives, with a focus on localised community action, and to project the message of an equal and positive BME contribution to London's drive towards a cleaner, greener and healthier lifestyle.
