Aims
Aardvark Recycling has set up an innovative project to bring reuse and recycling services to residents living on estates in Lambeth. Our aims and objectives include: improving service provision to extend to residents living in areas that have traditionally been excluded from doorstep recycling collections, enabling the community to have a say in the services that it receives, helping to demonstrate the importance of reuse and recycling on a local, regional and even national scale, offering a way to deal with waste on a local level, in accordance with the Municipal Waste Strategy, demonstrating the linkages between effective recycling services and local environmental improvements, demonstrating the importance of social enterprises and the not-for-profit sector in sustainable waste management
Main Activities
Aardvark currently collects dry recyclables from a number of selected estates in the wards of Stockwell, Larkhall and Clapham Town. It is also gradually rolling out a collection of kitchen waste to the same estates. The collected waste will be composted at a local site and the end product will be made to local residents and community groups to green their area. Over the coming months, Aardvark will also be introducing a furniture and appliance reuse service, a real nappy laundry service and a vegetable box scheme.
